Roundtable with Amb. R. Stephen Beecroft on the situation in Sinai and the Role of the MFO

Prague Centre for Middle East Relations (PCMR) and Prague Centre for Translatlantic Relations (PCTR) of CEVRO Institute organized a roundtable discussion entitled “Situation in Sinai and the Role of the Multinational Force and Observers” with Ambassador R. Stephen Beecroft. The event took place on April 4, 2022 at CEVRO Institute (Jungmannova 28/17, Prague).

The purpose of this closed roundtable was to discuss the current security and geopolitical situation in the Sinai and the current state of the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty. Ambassador Beecroft and the experts have paid special attention to the importance of the Multinational Force and Observers’ (MFO) mission in the Sinai. The mission of the MFO is to supervise the implementation of the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty and to prevent any violations of the terms of the treaty.

The event was held under the Chatham House Rules.

The roundtable was moderated by RNDr. Veronika Kuchyňová Šmigolová, Director of the Department of American States the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

Ambassador R. Stephen Beecroft is currently the Director-General of the MFO. Ambassador Beecroft’s last posting was as the U.S. Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt from 2014-to 2017. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ambassador Beecroft also served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq from 2012 to 2014 and as the U.S. Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan from 2008 to 2011.
